In October, Microsoft rolled out a dark mode feature for its Office apps on macOS Mojave to Insiders in the Fast ring. As promised, that feature is now available to a wider set of Microsoft Office users on Mac with an Office 365 subscription.
According to the new release notes issued by Microsoft, the update bumps up the Office apps' version number to 16.20.0 (Build 18120801). The latest Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook iterations now support the dark mode user interface on an operating system level, which was introduced by Apple at its macOS 10.14 Mojave announcement back in June.
In addition to dark mode, specific Office apps have also received their own share of updates. For example, embedded fonts have been added to Word in order to unify the appearance of a document's text on every PC. PowerPoint has also been updated to allow users to insert photos taken from an iPhone into a slide document with the integration of Apple's Continuity Camera.
For Outlook, Microsoft has added new capabilities for calendar sharing, preventing attendees from forwarding meetings to others, joining meetings with Microsoft Teams, and viewing participants for upcoming meetings.
Additionally, Excel and PowerPoint have received vulnerability fixes while Microsoft Auto Update 4.6 includes new security catalogs to contain SHA-256 hashes instead of SHA-1.
